50 year service pin was presented to Jacques Dallaire

Congratulations to both.

Our guest speakers Alex Dyck and Jessica Rice were from the John Howard Society.  The John Howard Society has three divisions, Adult Justice Service, Child Youth Service and Employment and Training.  Alex and Jessica spoke about the Child and Youth Service division.  They covered:

“Prevention” which is directed towards grade 7/8 kids who are 12 – 14 years old.  The child is identified by the school (Immaculate and St. Pat’s High Schools) and offered a choice to attend the program.  Students who attend start to reach out and they see an improvement in behaviour.

“Intervention” for students 12 - 20 years old who have been charged.  This can be an alternative to custody.  There is individual and group counselling in male and female groups.  The males and females are kept separate because each group have their own needs.  There are two locations; one in Kanata and one on Montreal Rd.  Both locations have on site school support.

“Housing Program” is for students who should not be in their own homes.  There are 25 self-contained bachelor units for males and 18 units for females with staff on site 24/7.  The goal is to teach living skills, cooking, laundry, money management and time management.

No Birthdays or anniversaries

50/50 -   Frank Heigy drew the one-eyed jack winning $573.50.  The pot is now zero.
