Thursday July 16, 2015 – as of today no speaker

Meeting Thursday July 2, 2015 - 7 members attended and 3 guests, guest speaker Dr. Luke Howard, Faye who is the President of the Kiwanis Club of Ottawa West and Otto Schreiber.

For those of you who could not attend, you missed a really good speaker.

Dr. Luke Howard our guest speaker has a Masters’ degree in Hypnotherapy as well as a Doctorate in Psychology. He described how our minds work on two levels – the conscious and the unconscious.  We make decisions, think and act with our conscious minds.  The unconscious mind controls our habits.  In the relaxed state known as hypnosis, we can communicate directly with the unconscious mind.

Dr. Luke had us all stand, stretch out our arms, then put our left hand on our left leg and extend the right hand with the index finger sticking out.  We then all moved as far right as we could without it becoming uncomfortable.  Dr. Luke spoke to us the whole time.  We then noted on how far we were able to turn right.  Next he had us repeat the same pose only this time we kept our eyes shut while he spoke to us as we were turning right.  After we had gone as far as we could we opened our eyes to discover this time everyone was able to move right a considerable distant further.

Someone asked a question about hypnotist’s on stage. Dr. Luke said he has done stage hypnosis and enjoys it.  He gave a quick demonstration, having us stretch out our hand link our fingers together, then point our index fingers up looking through the space between them.  He talked about the magnets pulling our fingers together, it became very difficult to keep the fingers apart. Actually impossible.
